How Green is Your Taxi? As the world gets warmer, we are starting to realise that we are responsible for the changes. Tornadoes in Birmingham and London, the hottest summer on record, and maybe the great storms to hit the South Wiltshire area in 1987 and 1990 were just a taste of things to come – who knows? I’m sure you, the reader have your own local weather horrors to relate! What can we do? Start thinking about the impact we as individuals can have – turn that light off, lag that hot water tank, and turn down the thermostat.
Recycle! In the UK there is less and less excuse for not recycling – our councils are picking up more and more, and there seem to be recycling points all over the place these days: I know we are behind many European countries too. At least recycle your paper and tins and bottles. Try hard to re-use where possible. But what about your car?
Why not take a taxi to the Airport or that distant destination – and while you’re thinking about it – why not take a taxi that is ‘carbon neutral’? Several taxi companies now offset the carbon dioxide that their cars churn out into the atmosphere, and represent a ‘green’ alternative for clients’ business and private transport needs! Where public transport can’t offer you the journey you need, the taxi is definitely a great option: research the market, choose the companies operating small diesel vehicles, hybrids, even electric cars in some places, or use minibuses for the larger party. By taking this option, and the flexibility that the taxi offers, you’re leaving your car at home and you’re making a small statement! Remember your ‘little bit’ is part of a greater effort to ‘do something’ about the environment that we’re changing.
Ethical Taxi operate a private hire vehicle in South Wiltshire, UK, specialising in airport transfer work, for more information on the services offered visit the Ethical Taxi website.
