Taxi services are a great method of transportation. They allow you to get from point A to point B quickly without having to drive. Shuttles do the same. However, when you take a shuttle, you must ride with a bunch of strangers. To a lot of us, that is very uncomfortable. You have to sit closely with people you do not know. You may be forced to sit near someone who is loud or obnoxious. A lot of people have MP3 players, etc. with ear plugs to listen to music, but it is still loud so you hear it whether you want to or not.

Other people traveling in groups talking can disturb your travel time. You may want to nap while children who are noisy or talking or other groups that talk steadily do not allow you to get the rest you want to get on what may be  a 30-45 minute ride or longer to the airport. What should be a restful period is now a stressful period.

If you have children travelling with you, vocabulary used by others may not be fit for children’s ears. Since you can not control what others may say or do, you risk having your children hear or see things that are inappropriate or things you do not feel comfortable with them hearing or seeing.

Have you ever had to sit close to someone that did not smell very good? Imagine if there is more than one person on the shuttle with a smell that may be offensive. Or wearing clothes too revealing? Or someone that smells like smoke and you are a non smoker? In the winter when everyone has winter coats in addition to luggage that you are carrying, the vehicle may be very close and tight and for a long ride that may have several stops; this can make for an very uncomfortable ride. Being in a taxi, you will have requested the appropriate size for your ride/group so that you know your ride will be comfortable. You will also know everyone in the vehicle travelling with you.

A Taxi service like My Personal Taxi(MPT) will pick you up from the location you designate, so you do not have to drive your vehicle and then get in a shuttle. A lot of shuttles only leave from one central pick up point which means you have to load your luggage in your car, then transfer it to the shuttle, then take it into the airport. That is extra movement of probably heavy luggage. It also means getting up earlier to travel to the pick up location. This time can be costly especially if there is more than one in your group.

With a taxi, you can request non smoking drivers or female drivers or Spanish speaking drivers. The ride is quicker because it is point to point, not stopping along the way to pick up other passengers. If you are returning to the airport from a trip the taxi driver with a service like MPT can monitor your flight and adjust the pick up time on the fly, where a shuttle is due to leave at a designated time. If you miss your flight the shuttle is gone but your taxi driver can change and easily adjust to your new flight information. Some shuttles are adults only or don’t allow car seats or booster seats, but you can always bring those along in the taxi.

Taxi service is usually 24/7/365 but shuttles normally run only at certain times of the day. Tipping is at your discretion based on service but a lot of shuttles have a certain percentage built in for a tip for the driver. So with these facts in mind, you can decide if a shuttle is better or worse for you.
