I’ve noticed that too, it seems like it only spread a few days ago from what I can tell, it might be a want to break out of normal routine and express artistic freedom.
People wore black armbands to mourn over wars, it could be a representation, to fight a disease, to benefit, or to promote peace.
All I know is that it could go either these two ways, simple want, or a symbolism of some sort.

Flowers for all of the pedestrians they’ve killed or maimed and those who they have yet to run over.

    But seriously:

The vast public art project, known as “Garden in Transit,” originated with two brothers, Ed and Bernie Massey, who founded Portraits of Hope in 1995. The project was intended to provide creative therapy for seriously ill and disabled children, but has expanded to include children and adults participating through schools, after-school programs, hospitals and nonprofit groups. Portraits of Hope has decorated blimps, buildings, tugboats, airplanes and even Nascar racers; the taxicabs are the group’s latest effort.

ABC has been pretty agressive promoting it’s new show “Pushing Daisies”, even handing out the flowers on street corners.

If the stickers showed up just recently, maybe it’s a promotion for that?
