Is the area around the Westbury, NY train station safe? How abundant are taxis at the station?

    There are usually several cabs at the Westbury station to meet each train and when there aren’t enough for all the passengers who need them, the drivers usually radio back to their bases to send more drivers. The LIRR website also gives the phone numbers of local cab companies that are based in each town that their trains stop in. It’s a good idea to have them programmed into your cell phone just in case.

    Just a heads up though, riding the cabs in LI is not like a taxi in Manhattan. The cab drivers usually take more than one passenger going in the same general direction and sometimes you get dropped off first and sometimes you don’t.

    Westbury is really close to S. Nassau, which isn’t one of the most desirable parts of L.I.- if you ever been, you would know.. Just like at any LIRR there should be taxis, as far as safeness, its more of a risk to go at night
