Are car seats required for children under 2 in taxis in California?

    Yes. They are required in ANY moving vehicle.

    California has the strictest car seat laws in the nation.

    It’s NOT my opinion. IT’s the LAW. Google it yourself. I was in the process of giving you some sites.

    In many states, the law singles taxis and buses out saying the law doesn’t apply to them – but I pored over CA law and didn’t see anything like that so good for CA, lol. CA actually seems to have a pretty good car seat law – any child under 6 years or 60lbs MUST be in an age appropriate child restraint. So for a 2 year old, that means a 5 point harness car seat.

    You might mention to your mom, that while state laws vary, the laws of physics are the same everywhere. A 2 year is going to be just as injured in a taxi in CA as in her home state in her regular vehicle. Ask her why the child is in a car seat when she rides in the family car, and ask her why she thinks the danger is any less in a taxi…with a driver she’s never met.
